@bearboneskentuck we have it on our website, I bought a bunch from a supplier who no longer makes it and we have been sell it:-)
Dan
Hey Dan, where do u buy the part A and B mirror material
Noticed the dish flexed a lot during handling, would suggest 2 raised ribs along the outside across the radius of the dish, this will offer some strength to the finished dish, may make it harder to pry off though, but may be worth the effort
i like your parabolic mirror idea;) makes sense to have the mirror reflect at all angles..improves efficiency…great idea mate dont let them discourage you:)
PAINSTAKING PROCESS!
I’ve seen some wok that have mirror surface on the concave side and honestly the 24 inch wok burns damn well
Try to finish the edges with a lighter.
how much power are you getting from this?
what about pipe insulation… from like home depot or something… just wrap it around the edges and glue it in the back side…
Can you use soapy water and squeegee it, like a decal? Also, you should sand the edge when its on the concrete. Try using compressed air under the fiber glass, that should help release it.
Hi,
check our website, Mirror film.
I have an old snow saucer , it’s metal and about 3′ wide.I’d like to wrap that with the mirror tape you used, but where do you get the tape?
vac forming sounds great, but i was scare to see how unsafe was thw way he was usan the table saw….
You are great. What size of blade saw that you use to cut the flexiglass? and the reflector sheet?
Thanks
i think to finish the edge you could use an edging strip similar to those which hold in place the seal of car doors, they usually are designed to make a safe edge where two thin pieces of metal join together lipped up and spot welded, one of those from an older car would be perfect! (new cars have pre-shaped ones older ones dont)
Dave If you video tape something, mute the sound and talk over the video later when editing. In may help. Some sound problems. Oh and be safe about things too. I enjoyed the steam engine, solar, lens and than cool heat engine. If you can get the Len, disc anf the heat engine to run and made DC lighting. would be great to see as well.
Idea for the edge of the dish 3/8 or ½ rubber hose cut it down the side. To do this get you blade from an utility knife in a table vice with the blade sticking out to the underside only deep enough to cut through one side of the hose. Pull the hose out with the one hand and hold the other hand at the back of the vice to center the hose. At the end turn the hose around and cut the part that is left in the begin. Take the hose and work it around the out side of your dish edge and cut to fit.
you could allso lay a sheet of the mirror plastic (thats been heated ) on a flat table with a hole in the center(1/4 inch hole)..drop a pice of plywood that has a round cut in it, the size you want the mirror…blow compressed air in the hole . and the heated plexiglass will rise..you can have a micro switch above the riseing plastic..and when it touched the switch..it stops the compressore…you can make these mirrors fast and cheap
why not vacume form plastic sheets with the mirror film on it…you could make one every 5 mins
you need a parabolic cross section.. not sure if a wok is the right shape. you could use a satellite dish
sorry this scared me..
Way back in 1894, a little girl named Madeline Crothe was skipping through the woods when a mysterious man in black snatched her. He brought her to his house, tourtered her, and starved her to death. Send this to 6 videos in the next 30 min. and you will be safe, but if you don’t… at approximately 1: 34 tonight you will wake up to see an aneorexic child holding a bloodied up knife and she will kill you” less sorry this scares
Would it be cheaper to use a wok?
You could also lay the dish on the original water tank, so it can be held in place firmly while you mess with it.
Since you first have a concrete mould, it could be interesting to create a real metallic mirror – if this is possible for you – by spraying molten metal (I’m not sure about this part). What I mean is actually using the mirror making techniques used by the folks creating telescopes mirror.
Spraying an even layer of reflective, molten metal, while having it spinned (to be sure it’s even) could be cool, however.
Its easier to follow your lectures if you could give them easier names
e.g. DIY Parabolic Mirror Part 1 of 2
Thanks anyway!
